Blossoms in the Fog...

Sunday, February 22, 2015

It has been an interesting mix of winter and spring lately with cold foggy mornings that later turn into beautiful sun-filled afternoons.  Trees are starting to blossom and early spring flowers are beginning to appear where once there was only earth.

The ritual of a morning walk is one of my favorite ways to start the day, even in the colder weather.  I bundle up with my hat and a scarf and go out for fresh air, exercise and a few moments with nature.  This quiet time always refreshes me and prepares me for the day ahead...

One of the qualities I most appreciate in a misty morning is the way the atmosphere envelopes the surrounding trees.  On clear days I barely notice the air I breathe but in the fog it becomes a real and tangible part of my experience.  It wraps itself around me and then fades out to white...

Even though these pictures are of the early spring trees blossoming, the experience of the morning mist is what stands out in my memory.  I think this set will always bring me peace... I hope it is the same for you.

Have a wonderful week!

  1. It is so lovely to see the blossom Lisa - I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the blossom season here but have a few weeks to go yet. We are in the process of booking a summer holiday in California so I will be watching your posts to see how the weather conditions develop before our trip! Is the morning mist seasonal or a regular occurrence?

    1. Hi Julie,

I'm happy to hear you are planning a trip to California! Depending where you plan to visit, the weather can either be beautiful or very hot in the summer. The morning mist is usually a winter or early spring occurrence unless you are on the coast where it happens year round. Keep me posted on your plans!

    2. Thank you Lisa - we are flying in to San Fransisco in early July and then spending two weeks driving to LA - the flights are booked so we are now planning our road trip - any advice on places we should visit or great restaurants would be much appreciated.

  2. So beautiful! We just got 8 inches of snow so I'm loving your lovely flower blossom photos. I like to walk every morning if I can, even in the super cold.

    1. Hi Sally,

Eight inches of snow! That sounds like a lot. Winter is lasting a long time in so many places this year. Here, spring is early and we didn't get enough snow in the mountains for good skiing...

Have a good weekend and stay warm!

    1. Cherry blossom trees are the first to bloom here and then the other varieties follow. I always know spring is on the way when I see the pretty pink flowers on their branches...

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your weekend!
